Author Visits
Author visits are a great way to deepen the joy of reading in a student's education. The opportunities students get to ask authors why they wrote a particular book, why a character did something in a story, and how the author found ideas for the book, connect the student to reading and writing in a fundamental way. Author visits can inspire students and give them more confidence in their own writing both in the classroom and even in their own desire to write short stories and books.

School or Library Visits
Presentations are geared toward a walk through the writing process, a focus on where ideas come from for stories and books, and a look at the illustration side of the publication process. My presentations are interactive with an ongoing discussion with students about challenges they face in writing, how to overcome writers block, and questions and answers about Treasure in Paradise. |
Classroom Visits
Presentations with classes or grade levels offer opportunities for enhanced student interaction. These often take place at the conclusion of a class who has already read Treasure in Paradise. Students are afforded the opportunity to ask specific questions about story, setting, and characters. Character development is expanded upon as the students are able to learn more about the characters they already know and where ideas came from for specific aspects of each character. Specific examples of how a student's very own experiences, places they have been, and activities they have participated in can be a treasure trove of ideas for their writing. Links to places and events in Treasure in Paradise are explained to help bring to life the writing process. |
